Tetsou:

This is a good guy turned arch villain. Tetsou was born with a powerful gift that allowed him to move and destroy abojects with his own free will. He was a weak member of a motorcycle gang and was taken to a strange hospital after he was in an accident. There, he was put through tests that raised his power. After escaping, he freaked out and was taken back. He exceeded his expectations and set out to revive a once powerful boy like himself or the god of power, Akira.

Kaneda:

Kaneda is the leader of the bike gang Tetsou is in. He lives in the future, run down Japan and goes to bars, carries guns, steals and is your average happy gangster at age 16. When his buddy Tetsuo returns from teh hospital, he steals his bike and almost gets the crap beaten out of him. Kaneda saves him and Tetsou's head goes insane. The hospital takes him back. Desperate to find his friend, Kaneda teams up with a girl name Kai to help him find his friend but he doesn't like what he finds. He gets to the hospital as Tetsou destroys it and escapes. A little girl like Tetsuo tells Kaneda his plans and Kenada takes off after him to cure his insanity.

Yamagata:

Yamagata is a member of Kaneda's gang and loyal friend of Tetsou. He's kind of the body guard who is in command next to Kaneda. He runs into Tetsou in a bar after his second escape and his power has matured and wishes he hadn't seen him.

Kaori:

Kaori is Tetsou's girlfriend and the only thing he cares about more than Akira. She is also cares for him adn follows him through his insanity and hopes to find out what is wrong with him. At the end of the movie when he's hardly human, she doesn't leave him out of her love.

The Doc:

This is the man who experimented on Akira and now Tetsou. He wishes to find the origin and how to hold their power and when things don't go as planned with Tetsou, he unleashes a monster. (Akira is one of the numbers)

Kei:

Kei is a rebel girl who wishes to clean up Japan. She runs into Kaneda in the sewers and ends up tagging along with him to find Tetsou. After she escapes from the hospital with Kaneda, the two race off to find Tetsou. She helps Kaneda the rest fo the movie to cure the insane boy.

Numbers:

These kids are cursed with the same gift as Tetsou. They were given special medication to keep them from going insane and became telapathic raisins. The tried to keep Tetsou insane and allow him to escape but the underestimated his power. They helped Kaneda to find and free his friend from his madness.

The Colonel:

This is one of teh few men who knows the secret of Akira and his power. His whole life he worked in the military and studied this boy. He knows what Akira and Tetsou can do and will stop them at any chance.

Akira:

This boy didn't become a telapathic raisin like the other numbers but was the most successful experiment. His power became to large, his spirit left our world while his body was frozen. Tetsou does his very best to bring back this mysterious youth and realizes at the last second that he's in over his head.
