Hugo:
This is Alita's first real boyfriend. She runs into him in the second manga. He is a boy from the scrapyard who used to live with is older broter that dreamed of going to Tiphares, a giant floating city. When his brother is sold to a hunter warrior and killed, Hugo goes off on his own. One day, he finds his brother's hand in a jar and a man named Mr. Vector allows him to switch his hand for his brother's and Hugo here'd rumors that Vector had been to Tiphares. Terrified, Vector tells Hugo is he pays him ten million chips, he'll send the boy to Tiphares. He meets Alita who falls in love with him and takes care of him when he gets boozed up. Things go wrong and Hugo almost dies and Alita talks Dr. Ido into sving his life by giving him a cybornetic body. Hugo tries to climb one of the shafts to Tiphares and die after agreeing to go back to the scrapyard with Alita.
Koyomi:
Koyomi is an orphan from the scrapyard that Ido decides to take care of when she's two. She was always a devious child but was still good at heart. After Alita fights a former rival, Zapan, in the berserker body, she doesn't see Koyomi until ten years later when Alita's a tuned agent of Tiphares. Koyomi is still devious. She enjoys gambling but at night times listens to radio KAOS, the son of Dr Desty Nova and a frail man with a pure heart. When Alita over loads her lungs by saving Koyomi from drowning, the girl kinldy says "Don't die Alita! But if you do, it wasn't my fault!" She eventually joins the Barjack, an army of surface people who want to shoot Tiphares out of the sky. She and Alita techniquely become enemies but are still friends.
Den:
Den is the leader of the Barjack. His real soul is in Kaos. Kaos is the son of Nova and has been frail from birth. His father put a plate on his chest, saying it helped Kaos stay alive. It was the soul of Den. Den wants to blow Tiphares and anyone who serves it up. Yes he's a giant robot but he does have a mind because he has a soul that is locked to the chest of his enemy.
